Farzaneh kaboli
Choreographer, Dance Artist, actress and art enthusiast,
Farzaneh kaboli, was born in Tehran, Iran. She went to the "17th
of Day" Elementary School and later on to the "Payam" High
School. She was born into a family of artists, her parents both
played musical instruments, and the late Ali Asghar Garmsiri, a
pioneer in the early Iranian theatre, was her uncle. She had
another uncle, Houshang Shokati, who was a famous singer in Iran
when Farzaneh was born.
The Early Years
From the very beginning, she received tremendous support and
encouragement from her father in doing the things she enjoyed.
At an early age, Farzaneh displayed a great deal of interest in
dancing, singing, and acting. She became very involved in extra
curriculum activities at the school in these areas. She
performed in all major school events; sang, danced, and became
the most popular member of the entertainment committee at the
school. Her serious love and passion for dance surfaced in the
7th grade, where she managed to become an outstanding
performer/entertainer at her school. At this time she started to
do her own choreography and taught the others how to dance in
harmony. Due to her physical and natural abilities, she also
became interested in competitive sports. She found herself
competing in tracks and field with the rest of the country. Her
specialty was the high jump, where she received medals for the
first and second Iranian championship spots for three
consecutive years. Throughout the time she was competing and
performing, her true inspiration and biggest fan, her father,
was present at every event she was involved with.
Beginning of an Exciting Carrier
By the time she completed the 9th grade, she knew preciously
what she wanted to do with her life. She wanted to become a
professional dancer and the best one at that. With the support
and encouragement of her family and friends, she enrolled in the
"Iranian National and Folkloric Dance Academy" which was
recently founded. The Academy had acquired some of the best
dance instructors and choreographers in the world. Mr. Robert de
Warren and his wife Jacqueline from England were the primary
instructors. She spent three years at the Academy and received
her equivalent of a high school diploma in art. It was obvious
that she had a great deal of natural talent in performing most
any kind of dance. From the very beginning, she became the lead
dancer and the soloist for almost every major dance they
performed on the stage.
This was the beginning of a dancing star being born in Iran, a
star who later on became a leader in the Iranian Folkloric and
National Dance Art. Farzaneh owes a major part of her
professional success to her first and most influential teacher:
Robert de Warren. (((link to de warren))) J
Throughout the time Farzaneh was studying at the Academy and for
years after she graduated, she led the Academy in performing
classical Iranian folkloric dances for the art loving audiences
in Iran, United States, and several European and Asian
countries. She became popular very quickly. She became the most
favorite Iranian performer . Among the most popular folk dances
she performed were: Torbat e Jam, Kurdish, Bojnoordi, Bandari,
KohKeeluyeh and Boyer Ahmadi, Azari, Baloochi, Turkaman, Gillani,
Mazandarani, Shooshtari, and also classical dances such as
Nezaami’s Haft Paykar, Chehel Sotoon, and Zarb o Zangooleh. It
was around this time that she was selected to be a judge in the
northern part of the country (Ramsar) for the national
competition.
Farzaneh reached the peak of her professional career as a dancer
in 1979, right in the midst of the turmoil and uprising against
the Shah in Iran.
Finally, a major revolution took place in Iran that changed
everything.
Birth of a New Era
After the revolution, Farzaneh started her activities in the
theatre and movie production areas. Here she hoped to still find
opportunity to perform as an actress and yet incorporate dance
movements into her acts. Her first major role as an actress was
in the play titled: “All My Sons” by Arthur Miller, directed by
Akbar Zanjanpour. She supported actors and actresses such as
Khosrow Shakibayee, Hady Marzban and Soraya Ghasemi in that
play.
Farzaneh has always been a caring person and has a lot of
compassions especially for the people in need. She performed in
several concerts for the “female only audiences” between 1997
and 1999 and donated all ticket sales from the concerts to the
“Children’s Cancer Foundation". These concerts were only for
female audiences and were all performed at the Italian and
French Embassies in Tehran.
